How to Germinate Saxifrage
Easily Grown from seed
Saxifrage Need a Good draing Compost adding some sharp sand will help also Alkaline soil can be benifical
Start them March to may
Prepare a pot or plant cells with a seed compost and stand your pot or cells in the water.
Once the soil is damp to the touch on the top you know your soil is wet enough to sow.
Sprinkle the seeds finley across the compost spacing them out, push them into the soil but do not cover!
Now you need to create a humid atmosphere with clingfilm,if using a pot just pull the Clingfilm tight over the top .
Within a few hours you should see condensation if you dont the clingfilm isnt tight enough or air is getting in.
With cells you do the same thing but will need to cover the seeds and the base and the sides to create the humid enviroment.
Place in a warm sunny spot germination can be eratic with some sprouting quickly others taking longer
As each seedling becomes big enough Transplant into a pot or cell
Then grow on for the year keeping it in its pot and safe from frost so it will need protection if you live in a colder area through the winter
The follwing spring after the last frost you can transplant them into their final home in your garden
