How to Germinate Cosmos Sulpureus from Seed!
Portulaca grandiflora are easy to grow from seed.
Start them off Just before the frosts are due to end if in the uk or europe
Prepare a pot or plant cells with a Good draining seed compost and stand your pot or cells in the water.
Once the soil is damp to the touch on the top you know your soil is wet enough to sow.
Sprinkle the seeds finley across the compost spacing them out, push them into the soil .
Do not cover the seeds they need light to germinate
Now you need to create a humid atmosphere with clingfilm,if using a pot just pull the Clingfilm tight over the top .
Within a few hours you should see condensation if you dont the clingfilm isnt tight enough or air is getting in.
With cells you do the same thing but will need to cover the seeds and the base and the sides to create the humid enviroment.
Place in a warm sunny spot germination can take a few days to 3 weeks.
The pot should self water if the cling film is tight enough if it looks dry stand your post or cells in water and let it soak from the base.
When big enough seperate the seedlings out into pots or cells.
The Seedlings can be slowly exposed to the outside weather to harden off.
Start by exposing them outside for just a few hours if in a colder climate.
You can also sow directly into a flowerbed after all danger of frost has gone
