How to Germinate Linum Grandiflorum Scarlet Flax
Easily Grown from seed
This little gem likes a sandy soil with the addition of chalk if possible as it is a rockery plant
mix the sand with some good quality compost
Start the seeds off mid to late spring March,April or in the late summer early autumn
Prepare a pot or plant cells with a seed compost and stand your pot or cells in the water.
Sprinkle the seeds finley across the compost spacing them out, push them into the soil but do not cover!
Now you need to create a humid atmosphere with clingfilm,if using a pot just pull the Clingfilm tight over the top .
Within a few hours you should see condensation if you dont the clingfilm isnt tight enough or air is getting in.
With cells you do the same thing but will need to cover the seeds and the base and the sides to create the humid enviroment.
Place in a warm sunny spot germination can be eratic with some sprouting quickly others taking longer
Adding a heat mat to the base helps germination
Keep the seeds warm sunny and moist
As each seedling becomes big enough Transplant into a pot or cell
